Most – More than 50 people gathered today at 5:00 PM in front of the cultural house Repre in Most to express their disagreement with its planned reconstruction, a CTK photo reporter discovered on-site. The attendees demanded a more sensitive approach to the building's repairs. They are most concerned that it will be difficult to maintain the building's original purpose. Adam Malý, the organizer of the demonstration, stated this to CTK today.

Dissatisfied citizens sent an open letter to the city with more than 1100 signatures. According to the letter's authors, Repre deserves an architectural competition. Malý stated that after the reconstruction, the effect of the floating cube will disappear, thus destroying the building's invaluable value. There are columns in the building. After the reconstruction, when new access paths are created, they will be in impractical locations, and visitors will have to navigate around them, Malý said. In addition to poorly thought-out access paths, the project also proposes changing rooms that are too small, where people will be cramped. "Due to these errors, it will be difficult to hold cultural events," Malý added.

The representatives of the SOS Repre initiative plan to address the city leadership again on Thursday with a presentation at a public council meeting, Malý said. According to him, the city responded to the open letter only by stating that no changes would be made.

The city has already selected a contractor for the reconstruction in a competition for less than 785 million crowns. The costs will be covered by the city through subsidies and savings. If no one appeals against the choice of the contractor in the third competition, clearance work will begin at the end of March or in early April. The city hall anticipates the facility, which will house the library, to be operational in 2026.

Criticism has accompanied the project from the beginning. In mid-February, the city leadership presented a document to journalists in which one of the architects of the work, Mojmír Böhm, expressed his opinion on the repairs. He disagreed with organizing an architectural competition, but approved two minor changes proposed in the project. However, according to Malý, the architect's family expressed at today's demonstration that Böhm had no problem with organizing an architectural competition.

The multi-faceted building was constructed between 1972 and 1984 alongside the development of the new town. A copper planetarium dome is placed on the roof. It will return after reconstruction, as well as the lighting fixtures. The multifunctional hall will have a capacity of 800 people. The building will be managed by the library. The ball season could return to the cultural house in 2026 to 2027, which had previously been slated for demolition.
