In Šternberk, the construction of a covered swimming pool has begun, which will accommodate 300 people

Šternberk – The construction of a new indoor swimming pool costing nearly 170 million crowns has begun in Šternberk in the Olomouc region. In addition to a 25-meter-long pool, the complex will also include an experience and wellness area. The construction of the multipurpose indoor pool with a capacity for 300 visitors is expected to take 18 months and will be completed next year. Šternberk mayor Stanislav Orság (ODS) told reporters today during the ceremonial launch of this investment.

"The start of construction fulfills a wish that the citizens of the city have repeatedly expressed since the 1990s, when the operation of the old indoor swimming pool in Šternberk was closed. We are building on the efforts of all municipalities, as well as sports clubs and active citizens, who have advocated for the idea of building an indoor pool for many years and subsequently prepared it," Orság stated.

According to the city hall, the indoor pool is greatly missed by people in Šternberk. Currently, they have to travel to Olomouc, Uničov, or Bohuňovice for swimming. Šternberk, which has about 15,000 inhabitants, has a significant swimming base.

The construction of the covered 25-meter pool was initiated by the company Strabag on land owned by the city, which the zoning plan designated for recreation. The swimming pool will be adjacent to the hospital and the future athletics stadium.

The building of the indoor pool is divided into three parts in the project. The main part will be the swimming pool with six lanes built according to regulations that are a prerequisite for hosting local and national swimming competitions. The wellness area will feature a traditional sauna, a Finnish sauna, a cooling pool, a relaxation area, and an outdoor hot tub. The experience section will be primarily aimed at children, featuring a teaching pool, a children's pool, and an experience pool resembling a wild river current.

The project also includes a 90-meter-long slide with its own landing area, as well as indoor and outdoor hot tubs. The pool facilities will be equipped with a modern entry system. The project authors have also considered refreshments by the pool and in the wellness area. The pool will include a spectator gallery and a gastronomic section.
