Sternberk – Despite the expected decline in revenues, the Sternberk Town Hall will this year begin the long-prepared construction of a covered swimming pool, which will cost 154 million crowns excluding VAT. The city will also undertake the construction of an athletic stadium for approximately 40 million crowns, half of which will be covered by a grant. This was stated today by town hall spokesperson Irena Černocká.
According to Černocká, the town hall expects a decrease in its tax revenues this year due to the coronavirus epidemic and the declaration of a state of emergency, which constitutes a significant part of the budget. The city has already reduced operational expenses and limited some investments that can be postponed to the next period.
"The limitation of investments will not affect the construction of the covered swimming pool in Sternberk; preparations are in full swing. This is one of the most important investments for the city. The construction should be completed by August 31, 2022, and will start in November of this year," Černocká said.
The new pool will feature sports, relaxation, and recreational areas. The so-called wet zone will accommodate approximately 240 people, while the wellness area will cater to about thirty people. "The pool itself will measure 25 by 12.5 meters. The wellness and experience area will offer a whirlpool, steam room, sauna, relaxation room, and especially a slide," Černocká stated.
According to the town hall, the pool in Sternberk is greatly missed by the people. They have to travel to Olomouc, Uničov, or Bohuňovice for swimming. Sternberk, which has about 15,000 residents, also has a significant swimming base, according to Černocká.
The Sternberk council has already approved the construction of an athletic stadium, for which the city will receive a fifty-percent grant from the Ministry of Education. The stadium will cost a total of 40 million crowns.
"The construction of the athletic stadium will run in parallel with the construction of the covered pool. The first phase of the project includes the construction of the athletic track itself and sectors for other athletic disciplines, including a central grassy area as a landing area for throwing disciplines," Černocká stated.
