Prague - Today, the 15th edition of the Forum of Czech Construction will take place in the Letňany district of Prague. Politicians and experts from the field will present the next vision for development and the government's investment program. They will also discuss the current shortage of workers. Among those who promised to attend are Transport Minister Dan Ťok (for ANO), Environment Minister Richard Brabec (ANO), and the President of the Association of Entrepreneurs in Construction (SPS) Jiří Nouza.
The event, organized by SPS and the company Blue Events, is primarily attended by representatives of construction, development, consulting, and investment companies. Last year, around 300 delegates participated.
The Czech construction industry has been hit by the crisis that began in 2008 much harder than most other sectors. From 2008, it declined for five consecutive years. In 2014 and 2015, it then grew by 7.1 percent and 4.3 percent, respectively. This was mainly due to the absorption of European subsidies from the programming period of 2007 to 2013. However, it fell by 5.9 percent in 2016. In the last two years, it grew again, by 3.3 percent in 2017, and by 8.4 percent last year. This represented the highest year-on-year increase since 2004.
At the end of the third quarter of last year, there were 374,104 employees and self-employed individuals working in construction companies in the Czech Republic. Compared to 2008, there were about ten percent fewer.
