At the 11th annual Forum of Czech Construction, representatives of significant construction and development companies, investors, and designers will gather to discuss opportunities for a brighter future in construction.

More than 150 participants have already registered for the construction forum three weeks prior to the event, showing interest not only in the large panel discussion with the participation of the Prime Minister and key ministers of the Government of the Czech Republic, moderated by Martin Veselovský, but also in five afternoon parallel workshops. These will provide space for truly detailed discussions about what drives and what hinders the revival of development in construction, and how we could prepare for better times.

The expansion of conference topics to be closer to developers and designers is met with interest—within the afternoon program, the most demanded is the specialized workshop “Urban Concept and Land-Use Plans,” which will be led by Martin Krupauer from Atelier 8000. “How to prepare for better times? We must decide whether our starting point should be initiation or the expectation of regulation. The initiation of thought and belief in the ability to have a vision, make decisions, and take responsibility for them versus the need to rather wait for 'enlightened help from above,'” suggests the direction of the discussion by Krupauer.

A thematically related workshop “Forum of Public Administration” will deal with specific experiences of municipalities, such as how to work with building laws and regulations to ensure they are not a hindrance to investment, how to deal with controversial projects and illegal construction, how to conduct tenders with regard to supplier quality and not just price, etc. “Some laws, in fact, are not as bad as the way they are misused,” notes Miloslav Mašek from SPS CR.

Other workshops will consider the needs for practical application of BIM (the process of creating and managing data about buildings throughout their lifecycle) or standards for drafting contracts for investors and suppliers in international practice (FIDIC rules). And the section “Future Talents” will focus on how young entrepreneurs or today's students could help bring new energy and ideas to this somewhat conservative field to promote better times in construction.
