Adamov (Blanensko) - After extensive repairs, the modernized lookout tower Alexandrovka was opened today in Adamov in the Moravian Karst, which is the oldest lookout tower in southern Moravia. Its reconstruction and repairs cost five million crowns. It now measures 16 meters and is twice as high as before the work began, said Adamov's deputy mayor Miroslav Čuma today to ČTK.
The lookout was built in 1887 by the Austrian Tourist Club. It is named after the imperial councillor Alexander Suchanek, who supported its construction. After World War II, only a ruin remained of the structure. The building was restored in the 1970s but was reduced to eight meters and began to serve mainly as a television transmitter.
The tower retained its walkway. However, two years ago, it was in such poor technical condition that it was at risk of collapse. Therefore, the ladder to the walkway was removed. During the subsequent one-year reconstruction, the tower regained its height from the end of the 19th century. However, it was not reconstructed to its original form. It has a modern appearance.
Alexandrovka stands on the peak of Špičák. In nice weather, you can see the castle in Letovice, the Dukovany power plant, Brno, Pálava near Mikulov, the western White Carpathians, and sometimes even the peaks of the Alps from it.
