Mikulov (Břeclavsko) - The management of the castle in Mikulov in the Břeclav region will open its garden, restored to its baroque form, to tourists at the end of August. The work will cost 25 million crowns, two-thirds of which will be covered by the EU. A new feature for tourists will be not only the tidied green corner in the city, which has been significantly neglected, but also new views of the Mikulov Holy Hill with numerous chapels and neighboring Lower Austria. This was stated today by Petr Kubín, the director of the Mikulov regional museum.

The creator of the garden restoration project is architect Ivar Otruba. He based his work on documents secured in the archive and historical sketches. Overgrown and aged trees were cut down in the garden.
"Some of them were destroying the terraces with their roots. New planting is being completed. Visitors can look forward to numerous flower beds. The garden will become a new place for relaxation," Kubín said.
The garden was connected to the castle by a staircase that led to its terrace and to its sally terreny, that is, the spacious hall on the ground floor. The staircase was demolished during communism and is now being restored.
