Krnov - An overhaul of the municipal swimming pool built in 1934 is being prepared in Krnov. Work will start this autumn and will last for eight months, costing more than 36 million crowns. Dita Círová, the spokesperson for the city hall, said this to ČTK.

"People who visited the swimming pool this year experienced it in the form given to it at its inception in 1934. The city will reconstruct it in the coming months. It could be unveiled in a new form as early as the next season," she stated. This year, the city will allocate 29 million crowns for the project. The councilors have already approved adjustments to this year's budget.

The remaining funds will be included in the budget for 2018. In September, the city will announce a tender for the construction contractor. Companies will submit their bids by October 5th. The winner will be announced by the city hall a few days later. "I am convinced that some construction work, such as demolition, can still be carried out this calendar year. The schedule for further work is set so that the swimming pool can be opened no later than June 30, 2018," said Deputy Mayor Michal Brunclík.

During the reconstruction, the outdoor swimming pool basins will be modified, repaired, and covered with a special foil; the pool technology machine room will be repaired, and new accumulation tanks will be built. A new children's pool will be constructed. After the reconstruction, the water area of the pools will have a capacity of 505 people, and the facility will accommodate up to 1,767 visitors daily.

In making their decision, the city councilors also considered a survey among the residents. A total of 777 voters participated. Of these, 321 voted for the natural swimming biotope option, while 456 respondents favored the classic reconstruction.
