KRALUPY NAD VLTAVOU (Mělnicko) - A local referendum is taking place today in Kralupy nad Vltavou in the Mělnicko region, which aims to decide how the planned reconstruction of the city's center will proceed. Residents can express their opinions in designated locations from 09:00 to 22:00.

The dispute between the city hall and part of the city's residents concerns the Kralupy square. The city hall management wanted to relocate the municipal office to the former Hotel Praha, which must be rebuilt and expanded at the cost of tens of millions of crowns. Opponents of this solution demand that a concept for the entire center be developed before the hotel reconstruction, rather than just one building.
Due to the referendum, the municipal office has also canceled today’s official hours from 12:00 to 15:00. It warns that the office's operations will be limited on Friday as well.

About a third of the people have participated in the Kralupy referendum so far

KRALUPY NAD VLTAVOU (Mělnicko) - The local referendum in Kralupy nad Vltavou in the Mělnicko region has so far attracted average interest from the public, as it seeks to determine how the planned reconstruction of the city center will proceed. According to Ivana Petříková, head of the internal affairs department of the Kralupy city hall, around a third of the more than 14,000 eligible voters had cast their votes by 19:00. Voting places will close today at 22:00.
The result of the referendum will be binding for the further decisions of the city council only if at least 7,088 people cast their votes. According to Petříková, many people are likely to vote in the evening hours. The dispute between the city hall and part of the city's residents is about the Kralupy square. The city hall management wanted to relocate the municipal office to the former Hotel Praha, which must be rebuilt and expanded at the cost of tens of millions of crowns. However, opponents of this solution demand that a concept for the entire center be developed before the hotel reconstruction, rather than just one building. This was reflected in the referendum question, which asks: "Do you agree that the reconstruction of the city center of Kralupy nad Vltavou should be addressed conceptually with maximum use of financial resources from EU funds or other funds, that the current proceeding, which threatens such a conceptual solution, should be suspended, and that the following rules should be adhered to?".
The question is supplemented by a number of proposals and demands. However, the city leadership considers this question misleading, as the city hall also supports the best possible transformation of the city center and wants to pursue grants from the European Union. Architects hired by the city have already prepared four studies with costs ranging from 80 to 170 million crowns, which address the reconstruction of Hotel Praha into the municipal office in various ways. People can familiarize themselves with the proposals on the city hall's website as well as directly at the city hall or in the Vltava cultural center.
