Kolín - In Kolín, the renovation of the gymnasium's facade is continuing, costing 11.5 million crowns. The city approaches the building as a monument, even though it is not officially one. Therefore, the construction company is sensitively repairing only the most necessary pieces of plaster; for example, the repair of the tower has been completed, regaining its original historical appearance, said deputy mayor Michael Kašpar (Change for Kolín) to ČTK.
The tower of the Kolín gymnasium is made of a concrete monolith that has begun to deteriorate significantly, according to Kašpar. It was necessary to coat it to preserve the concrete, and the coating also serves as protection against the weather. "According to the original documentation, the tower has returned to a reddish-brick color. In a year, it should be painted in a shade darker, all harmonizing with the brick bands on the building. It corresponds with how the school was constructed," Kašpar said.
In addition to the plaster, the city is also having frescoes on the walls restored. The plaster that does not need repair will be cleaned with high-pressure silica sand.
In addition to the facade renovation, there are also plans for the reconstruction of the old playground by the gymnasium. Kolín has about 1.6 million crowns prepared for its repair, and the exact start of the work is not yet known. What is certain is that the repairs should begin next year. The playground will have a new surface and will accommodate more sports than before. The fencing will also be expanded, and after the reconstruction, there will be a fence on all sides, which was previously missing on one side.
