In H. Králové, the reconstruction of the Gallery of Modern Art has begun

Hradec Králové - The reconstruction of the Gallery of Modern Art has begun in Hradec Králové. The construction work costing 77 million crowns is expected to be completed in August 2015, and the gallery should be open to visitors from spring 2016. This was stated to reporters by the gallery director Tomáš Rybička.

The builders plan to repair the roof, facade, replace windows, and electrical installations. An additional approximately 11 to 12 million crowns will be spent on the interior furnishings of the gallery. "We will return the entrance hall, where exhibitions took place, to its original use. The side halls will include a cloakroom, a publications shop, a café, and facilities for visitors. The exhibition halls will be on the upper floors," said Rybička.
In two floors of the renovated building, there will be a permanent exhibition of modern art, while other spaces will be designated for temporary exhibitions. After reconstruction, a graphic cabinet will also be created, and the gallery is preparing an interactive program on monitors.
The gallery is located in an Art Nouveau building in the Great Square, which was built between 1911 and 1912 according to the design of architect Osvald Polívka. The entrance facade is adorned with bronze sculptures by Ladislav Šaloun. The gallery has approximately 5,500 works of art and collections, which are currently stored in alternative spaces. Some of the works have been lent by the gallery for exhibitions in other cities. "Collections are on display in Rychnov nad Kněžnou and Pardubice, and we are preparing more. Colleagues from other galleries are interested in loans from our depository," said Rybička.
