Hradec Králové - The Hradec Králové Region wants to renovate the building of the Gallery of Modern Art at Velké náměstí in Hradec Králové. Costs are expected to be around 80 million crowns excluding VAT. The justification for the public contract was approved today by the regional councilors, Jiří Hošna from the press department of the regional office told ČTK.
The reconstruction of the gallery in the historical center of the city is expected to bring changes to the spatial arrangement, modernization of the interior parts of the building, and improvement of the storage facilities. "Additionally, a general renovation of the original facade elements, repair of roofs, balconies, terraces, and the facade will be carried out," the materials from the councilors state. Part of the reconstruction will be the creation of a relaxation zone for visitors, which will include a small café, a cloakroom, and a shop.
The gallery is located in a decorative building constructed between 1911 and 1912 according to the design of architect Osvald Polívka. The entrance façade is adorned with bronze sculptures by Ladislav Šaloun. Inside the building, the entrance hall on the ground floor and the interiors on the first floor have been preserved in their original form. The ground floor spaces are adapted for short-term exhibitions, while a permanent exhibition of Czech visual art of the 20th century is installed across four floors.
