Cheb - Cheb is considering the possibility of developing the vacant space in front of the train station. The discussions were triggered by the plan to sell the plots in front of the station, where a multipurpose building could be built. The design for the city's development was prepared by the A69 studio. The city intends to discuss the proposal at an architectural conference to be held in Cheb in April, Cheb Mayor Pavel Vanoušek (CSSD) told reporters today. The preliminary intention to sell the land in front of the station was not approved by the city council at their last meeting. "It was probably expected, as the councilors were presented with a proposed solution for a relatively extensive area in front of the station, where houses once stood. Those were lost after the bombings at the end of World War II," Vanoušek stated. According to A69 studio's proposal, which designed the current form of the pedestrian zone in Cheb, a triangular building would be constructed in the area in front of the station, which would maintain sight lines while utilizing the vacant spaces around the transport terminal. According to Vanoušek, the city wants the proposal to be initially assessed by experts, and if deemed suitable, it will approach the council again. "In the past, almost all larger architectural constructions in the city, the ice rink, the area in Poohří, the pedestrian zone, encountered obstacles. And people have already become accustomed to them today," Vanoušek stated. The idea of utilizing the space in front of the station emerged after the council rejected selling the plots to a private investor for building a multipurpose building on Májová street. However, the councilors recommended to the city leadership at the beginning of the year to find other plots for the project. The ones in front of the station are among them.
