Kladno - In the Meta building in Kladno, which is inhabited by people with disabilities, several starter apartments for young families will be created after extensive renovation. Additional apartments for young people will be built in newly constructed senior housing in Vrapice, Mayor Dan Jiránek (ODS) told journalists today.
"The city council has allocated four apartments in Meta for young families, so that we can test the interest level on a sample," he stated. The Meta building is very large, containing 255 apartments with state-mandated low rents. There is not much interest among disabled individuals for larger apartments, as they are costly to maintain. According to Jiránek, young families would prefer them over studio apartments.
In the starter apartments, the rent will be the same for the first three years as it is for seniors, namely 29 crowns per square meter. In the fourth year, it will reach the level of the usual market rent and in the fifth year, it will double. It is assumed that by the fifth year, the family will no longer be living in the apartment.
Applications from interested parties will be scored according to established criteria. A young family up to 30 years old with one or at most two children under three years old will be eligible for the apartment. The applicant must have at least one year of building savings.
Rents in conventional municipal apartments in Kladno will not increase this year; the city's rental income has reached a point where the town hall is capable of maintaining the housing stock. The city last increased regulated rents in May of last year, with the highest category apartments rising from 35 crowns to 51 crowns per square meter.
The renovation of Meta primarily considers insulation of the facade and window replacement to reduce heating costs. The city has included this action in the revitalization program for the Kročehlavy housing estate, funded by EU money. The total cost of repairing the building is around 60 million crowns, and the work will last from July to approximately October.
