Brno – Modifications of the brownfield on Žižková Street in Brno began today, where a dilapidated former military dining hall is located. By the end of July, a park for the public will be built on its site for nearly ten million. This was announced to journalists today by Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS). Half of the costs will be covered by a grant, with the rest financed equally by the city of Brno and the Brno-střed district.

The area covers over 4000 m². The work will be done by Dirs Brno. The city has long wanted to obtain a grant for the Kadetka brownfield, but according to the mayor of Brno-střed, Vojtěch Mencl (ODS), there were no suitable grant programs available. "It only appeared a few months ago. Thanks to this, we will get rid of an unsightly building," said Mencl.

According to Vaňková, the building has been unused for almost 30 years. "The effort to revitalize the area has been ongoing for many years. I had almost lost hope that we would succeed," said the mayor. The work will begin with the removal of invasive trees and the care of those that will remain. This will be followed by demolition and removal of debris. Terrain modifications will ensue.

The actual work on the park includes the planting of nearly forty new trees, including red maples, sycamores, bird cherries, and hornbeams. Additionally, there will be 139 mature hornbeam shrubs over two meters tall, as well as hundreds of daffodils. Furniture, bicycle racks, outdoor fitness equipment, and grills will also be included.
