Brno – The Kadetka Park has been created in place of the burned former military canteen at Kraví hora in Brno. The building had been unused for nearly 30 years, stated Brno Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS) in a press release today. The construction of the park, which covers an area of more than 3000 m², cost over nine million.
It took only 63 days to create the park and remove the partially demolished canteen building. "With one exception when heavy rains complicated the removal of debris, the construction proceeded according to plan. It began with the removal of invasive tree species and thorough care of those that remained. This was followed by the demolition of the unused canteen building, then landscaping, creation of access paths, and the construction of stairs," Vaňková said.
The park features nearly forty new trees, specifically field maples and sycamores, full-flowered bird cherries, and hornbeams, along with 139 mature, over two-meter-high hornbeam shrubs. "Lawn areas and flower meadows were also established, and around three hundred daffodils were planted," described the mayor.
In the final stage, furniture was added. "The public will thus have access to beam benches, benches, bicycle racks, two outdoor fitness stations, the same number of grills, and, of course, trash bins," said the mayor of the Brno-střed district, Vojtěch Mencl (ODS). The construction site was handed over on May 10. "And although all the work was completed by early July, we decided to keep the area fenced off and inaccessible for some time. We wanted the newly established grassy areas to take root," Mencl added. The revitalization of the brownfield at Kraví hora cost 9.2 million, which includes care for the trees for the next three years. Half of the costs were covered by a grant from the Ministry of Regional Development, and the city contributed just under three million, as did the district.
