Humpolec – Humpolec in the Pelhřimov region signed a contract for the project documentation for the adjustment of the city block with the Community House. It will pay 20 million crowns for it. The project and building permit could be available to the city within two years. However, the costly reconstruction is not expected to begin sooner than in five years, said the mayor of Humpolec, Petr Machek, to the journalists today.
"The contract is signed with the architects who won the architectural competition. We are currently working on the study. So far, everyone who will be operating their activities there has been invited. These are our schools, cultural and information center, mostly our contributory organizations. It also includes the gymnasium, which uses the cafeteria that is there. It is necessary to fine-tune the optimal condition within the framework of the study, and then the design will begin," said Machek.
The proposed adjustments, according to him, respect the external appearance of the winning design by the AEIOU studio, which will be reflected in the study and project. However, the internal layout should change by utilizing and enlarging the basement. This will create a larger entrance space, for example. The capacities of club rooms and the café should also be increased. "The winning design was very economical and efficient. This is also reflected in the fact that many things were a bit smaller than necessary. So, it is somewhat expanding, but not beyond the framework of the materials that were proposed," Machek added.
The city block, which the city is preparing to adjust, consists of the Community House building and the former weaving school. The total costs for its adjustment could amount to several hundred million crowns. A more precise amount will arise from the project documentation. Only if the city obtains grants for at least part of the adjustments, could, according to Machek, its first phase start even earlier than in five years.
The Community House, which has stood on Smetanova Street since 1899, was purchased by the city three years ago from a private owner for more than 28 million crowns. As a socio-cultural institution, the building functioned until the nationalization in the mid-20th century under the management of associations. Then it housed a cinema. After the new cinema in the city was put into operation, the devastated Community House faced demolition. This was halted by the change in social conditions after 1989, when private owners bought the house and partially repaired it.
