Prostějov - The company Astria Group, which became the new owner of the main complex of the bankrupt Clothing Company in Prostějov at the beginning of this year and recently started demolishing production buildings, plans to build a large exhibition hall on part of the land. The company has already requested a zoning decision from the Prostějov city hall. This is evident from documents available to ČTK.
The exhibition hall is to be constructed on a plot of land measuring nearly 31,000 square meters. The land is located next to large manufacturing and administrative halls, which Astria Group plans to demolish in the second half of June. "The exhibition hall will serve for holding seasonal fairs," states the request from Astria Group for a zoning decision.
The collapsed clothing factory OP Prostějov is located near the expressway R46, which runs from Olomouc to Brno. There is currently no large exhibition complex in Prostějov. The nearest large exhibition venue is in Olomouc.
The main manufacturing and administrative complex of OP in Prostějov is extensive and includes several production and administrative buildings, warehouses, a heating plant, a boiler house, and a railway siding. Astria Group has already notified the city hall about the demolition of OP buildings, which have been an inseparable dominant feature of the industrial part of Prostějov for several decades. Only the supporting pillars remain of the buildings now.
"Our maximum effort and goal is to restore the site for industrial use and create new jobs," said Ondřej Batta, chairman of the board of Astria Group, to ČTK in March, according to whom the company is still negotiating regarding the future use of the complex, so it will not disclose details for now.
Astria Group paid 58 million crowns for the main OP complex, which it purchased as the winner of the tender in January. Astria Group is personnel-related to the Brno company PV-Recycling, which specializes, among other things, in the dismantling of factory halls and machinery, purchasing metals, and disposing of car wrecks.
After the declaration of bankruptcy in May 2010, the accounts of the bankrupt Clothing Company gradually ended up with 1.111 billion crowns, thanks to the sale of assets and other income. After deducting expenses and costs for managing the assets of this former largest domestic clothing manufacturer, 351 million crowns remained for creditors at the end of last year, with an additional 58 million crowns this year from the sale of the main OP complex in Prostějov.
The claims against OP are being demanded by 555 creditors, who have requested more than two billion crowns. The textile company owes about 675 million to Česká spořitelna. Experts estimated the value of the company after the declaration of bankruptcy at one billion crowns. At the time when OP operated its branch plants, it employed up to 10,000 people.
