Brno - Part of the Tourist Information Center of the city of Brno will move to the emerging parking garage on Panenská Street, which is being built for 210 million crowns by the city company Brněnské komunikace since October 2014. The expected opening date is this autumn, Zuzana Taušová from the press center of the Brno city council told ČTK. Visitors to the center will not only receive information but also souvenirs or tickets for cultural and other events. Only the information center will remain at the current location on Radnická Street; the souvenir shop and ticket sales will move.
The Tourist Information Center will be located on Panenská right next to the entrance to the Mint Master’s Cellar. "The current spaces are not entirely suitable, as the info center, the souvenir shop, and the ticket sales are separate and disconnected. It is very confusing for tourists and Brno residents, and complications arise when using the services offered," stated councilor with tourism competencies Petra Rusňáková (ANO).
The visitor center, as well as the building of the parking garage, was designed by the Brno architectural studio Hrůša. "The location on the ground floor of the parking garage connects to life in the center. It offers excellent accessibility both for pedestrians with a better connection to the public transport hub on Česká Street and for car traffic. It is ideally situated at the boundary between pedestrian and car zones," said architect Petr Hrůša.
The Tourist Information Center ensures activities related to tourism in the city. It offers several information centers, guiding services, looks after cultural monuments such as the Old Town Hall, the Ossuary at St. James, and others, and also organizes citywide events, such as Brno Christmas.
The parking garage for 210 million is expected to be completed by the end of this year. It will be paid for by the city company Brněnské komunikace. It will offer around 360 parking spaces.
