Tišnov – Tišnov in the Brno region has its own funeral hall since today's grand opening. The city had it built next to the new cemetery for 39.5 million crowns. Until now, residents of Tišnov had to hold last farewells with their deceased in ceremonial halls in nearby towns. The funeral hall will be in operation from April, said the mayor of Tišnov, Jiří Dospíšil.
"Until now, it was only possible to organize a church farewell in Tišnov. If the bereaved wanted to arrange a non-religious ceremony for the deceased, they usually used the services of the nearest funeral hall located in Veverská Bítýška," explained Dospíšil, adding that the city leadership had been considering the construction of a funeral hall since 2008.
The construction of the building according to the design by architect Pavel Jura began in the autumn of 2020 and was completed last December. It was originally supposed to be finished in the middle of last year, but during the construction, the city modified the project to include some additional adjustments, such as the construction of columbarium walls for storing urns with the ashes of the deceased.
The modern building features a ceremonial hall with a catafalque. Opposite it is a projector that allows for the projection of photographs or videos during the ceremony. The space has glass walls on both sides, leading to a mourning garden with seating. This area will only be accessible to mourners during ceremonies; outside of this time, it will be open at the same hours as the cemetery. The building has a green roof, designed to cool the building and visually integrate it into the surrounding landscape.
The Tišnov funeral hall will serve for conducting funeral ceremonies. The deceased will then be buried or transported for cremation to the crematorium in Brno.
