Telč – Telč in Jihlava is preparing to modify the area of the former ice rink. The land near the historic center and schools is currently used as a parking lot. After revitalization, in addition to parking spaces for cars, there should be a park with a small natural amphitheater. This was announced today by mayor Vladimír Brtník. In the next phase, the municipality would like to renovate the former stable in the area near Hradecká Street, which also belongs to the city.
"It’s almost in the center of the city and it doesn’t look nice," said the mayor. It is an area of 11,550 m², from which one can reach Zachariáš z Hradce Square via a footbridge over a pond. The use of the site of the old stadium has been debated in the city for several years.
The municipality already has a study for the revitalization of the entire area, and for the first two phases concerning the parking lot and park, there is also the project documentation necessary for a building permit. "We would be glad if we could start next year," said Brtník. He added that it will also depend on the possibilities of drawing grants and the decision of the local government.
A new covered ice rink was built in Telč in 2015 next to the football stadium on Tyršova Street. The old rink, which was not covered, left behind a concrete slab. Beneath it, there are many pipes for artificial cooling, which used to contain ammonia. According to the mayor, the concrete will need to be ripped out and the area revitalized.
The provisional parking lot can currently accommodate about 130 cars, while the newly modified parking area should have about 90 spaces. According to Brtník, the parking lot should primarily serve the residents of Telč, also because driving in the square is prohibited during the main tourist season from June to September.
The new park should slope towards the pond, where a small amphitheater should be created. Behind it, viewers would see not only the water surface but also the silhouette of the square with its towers. "We feel that this is something that Telč could utilize in the future," Brtník said. The amphitheater could host various cultural events, including concerts by students of the elementary art school and performances by the folk ensemble Podjavořičan, which should find its base in the renovated stable.
The former stable should be walk-through after the renovations, significantly shortening the path from the new parking lot to the schools behind this building. There is an elementary school and a gymnasium. The reconstruction of the stable should be the last to be addressed. According to the mayor, the city could not afford to carry out all parts of this plan simultaneously. According to initial rough estimates, the total investment amounts to around 100 million crowns. About 5,100 people live in Telč.
