Šumperk - Builders have fully committed to the demolition of the current fire station in Šumperk. All structures are expected to disappear from the surface of the earth by the end of the summer. A new central fire station, costing approximately 97 million crowns excluding VAT, will be built on the original site on Nemocniční Street. According to the schedule, the area should be handed over to professional firefighters again by the end of 2016. This was reported to ČTK by the fire department spokesperson Vladimíra Hacsiková. The current headquarters of the firefighters, which no longer met present requirements, was taken over by the construction company in mid-July. According to Hacsiková, the firefighters have already left the area and are functioning in temporary facilities during the construction. "Almost nothing stands on the site anymore; there is a pile of rubble. The iron structure has been dismantled and removed. The internal workshop and garage, chemical and technical services facility has already been demolished, and debris from the former headquarters of the regional department and fire station in Šumperk is also being removed,” the fire department spokesperson stated. After the demolition of all structures and the removal of debris, appropriate facilities for the fire protection unit, garages for fire vehicles, workshops for special services, administrative offices, and storage for humanitarian aid material will be created on the same site. Firefighters are expected to move into the new headquarters, which have been planned since 2013, by the end of next year. The fire station in Šumperk was located in a building that originally served as a municipal shooting range. Records of its existence date back to 1861. Firefighters have used the building since 1954, and it has not undergone a significant renovation. According to Hacsiková, the garages for fire equipment, which could barely accommodate modern emergency vehicles, lacked proper ventilation. The historical building also did not meet the requirements for thermal and technical parameters of construction, nor did the multi-level layout of the building meet current standards.
