Prague - The Ministry of the Environment has definitively abandoned the plan to purchase Labská bouda from its owner in the Krkonošsko Mountains and to demolish it. The reason is the lack of funds, as the entire process was expected to cost up to 90 million crowns. The hotel suffers from a bad reputation and a lack of interest from tourists.
Labská bouda's owner, Martin Pumr, stated several weeks ago that the prolonged negotiations with the state would likely come to an end. However, he did not rule out a sale at that time. He has now changed his mind. "I have started the renovation of the interiors, I am changing the heating, toilets, floors, and paneling," Pumr told the newspaper. He wants to make a new section with 50 beds available by the end of the year.
Next year, a complete renovation could be carried out, in which architecture students from the Czech Technical University will also participate. The biggest obstacle to the project will be the current insufficient thermal protection of the building and the crumbling panels.
Although plans for the reconstruction of Labská bouda are being developed, the building is still for sale. "It is still in our offer," Tomáš Rybáček from the real estate agency MT Progress told LN. It has been listed since 2007, when negotiations between the owner and the state began. The two sides were closest to an agreement in 2008, when the ministry managed to reduce the price from 43 million to 30 million. Just before signing, however, the agreement fell through. "They wanted to sell us the entire company, which we refused. There could have been some debts left behind," the then-deputy minister František Pelc told the newspaper. Since then, negotiations have dragged on.
The Krkonošsko National Park Administration (KRNAP) must also come to terms with the ministry's decision. This agency has been the most vocal in advocating for the purchase of the controversial building, its demolition, and the creation of a smaller shelter.
The nine-story Labská bouda was built after six years of construction in 1975 near the site of the original burned-down Labská bouda. During the privatization of the state enterprise Interhotely Krkonoše's property, it was acquired in 1996 by the transportation company Pumr & Ryba, Transport - Spedition from Lázně Bělohrad in the Jičín region. The massive concrete structure of Labská bouda has evoked negative emotions from the public since its inception.
