Krnov (Bruntál Region) - In a month, people will be able to visit the renovated Flemmich Villa in Krnov, Bruntál Region. The reconstruction has been completed, and now the city museum of Krnov will begin preparing exhibitions in this cultural heritage site. Dita Círová, the spokesperson for the city, informed ČTK about this. Extensive modifications to the villa's exteriors and interiors began last October and cost nine million crowns. Ninety percent of the costs will be covered by state and European Union subsidies. "The construction company has already handed over the building, and now they just need to clean up their things around the villa. Inside, preparations for exhibition activities can start," said Círová. There will be a permanent exhibition as well as temporary exhibitions in the villa. According to the spokesperson, the grand opening is planned for August 12, when the unveiling of the exhibition by Bohumila and František Sarn will take place. "At the same time, a restored exhibition of Art Nouveau and individualistic modernism, as well as a tin exhibition from the collections of the City Museum in Krnov, will be opened," said Círová. The exhibition will be complemented by a display documenting the history and present of Flemmich Villa. It was built in 1914 according to the design of the Vienna architect Otto Prutscher. "The villa retains a wooden-paneled entrance hall with a richly carved staircase, stained glass windows with zodiac motifs, heraldic symbols of the city and Silesia, built-in furniture on the staircases, in the attic, and in some of the rooms of the house," described Círová. She added that the builders had to preserve as many original elements as possible during the modifications. Libor Nowak from STAFI CZ, the company that carried out the reconstruction, stated in a press release that they had problems, for example, with the renovation of wooden floors. "The parquet in the upper floors was partially preserved, but on the ground floor, it had been hidden under linoleum for decades, and it was no longer usable. The best-preserved pieces were sanded down, the material and patterns were identified, and new parquet was made, with which we pieced the floors according to the original mosaics," explained Nowak. He also noted that repairing the unique wooden outdoor window shutters, which are both retractable and tiltable, was complex. "It took our carpenters a lot of effort, but all will be functional. Thanks to the cooperation with a specialized company, we managed to preserve eighty percent of the original winding mechanisms," stated Nowak. The city spokesperson added that specialists were also involved in restoring the original ceramic tiles in the winter garden and repairing the main wrought iron gate and the entrance doors from the street. "The complex also includes an outbuilding, a greenhouse, land with an ornamental garden and two functional fountains, a meadow area, and a vegetable garden," reminded Círová. The renovation of Flemmich Villa is part of a joint project between Krnov and the Polish town of Hlubčice, which also includes the repair and modernization of the Hlubčice cultural center. "Both reconstructed buildings will serve after the repairs for hosting joint Czech-Polish cultural events and for further activities to support cross-border tourism," stated the spokesperson from Krnov.
