Krnov (Bruntál Region) November 10 (ČTK) - The Flemmich Villa, an architectural gem of Krnov in the Bruntál Region, is set to open its doors to visitors for the first time in history next spring. The former family residence of the prominent Krnov industrialist Theodor Flemmich will be the main exhibit of the museum that will be established within it. A display of individualistic modernism and a community house are planned for the area, said Dita Círová, spokeswoman for the Krnov city hall. Interested parties will be able to view the historic building from December 17 to December 21 during Open Doors Days.
The villa on Hlubčická Street, which is a movable cultural monument, was built in 1914 according to a design by the Viennese architect Otto Prutscher as a family residence for the leading Krnov industrialist Theodor Flemmich, who lived there until 1948. After that, the city housed eight families there for three years, and from 1951 to 2003, the entire complex of buildings with a garden served the needs of an infant institution.
The villa's uniqueness is also confirmed by experts in residential architecture, who gathered in Krnov at the end of October for a working meeting regarding the utilization of the villa. "The Flemmich Villa is a beautiful structure. There are not many such cultural treasures in the republic that visitors can freely explore, such as the Tugendhat Villa or the Müller Villa; most are used as municipal offices or other institutions," stated Oldřich Janota from the artistic agency Foibos. Janota has been working for years on the project "Famous Villas," focused on presenting exceptional buildings of family architecture in the Czech Republic. The city hall wants to open the villa despite the fact that its interior is still empty. "People should have the chance to watch how this architectural gem, which has never been commonly accessible before, transforms into an exhibition over the years. Therefore, we are prepared to make the villa accessible under provisional conditions and gradually work on its transformation into a house-museum, depending on how successfully we can obtain funding," said Mayor Renata Ramazanová. So far, it is unclear how much money the city hall will need to bring the villa to an ideal state, which is planned for as early as 2010. According to very rough estimates, this amounts to 20 million crowns. However, this money is not necessary for the villa area to be opened to the public, according to the mayor. A more detailed financial analysis is expected to be completed in the coming weeks. Interested parties do not have to wait until spring to get acquainted with the Flemmich Villa. If they want to see the current condition of the building and how its interior looks, they will have the opportunity from December 17 to December 21, daily from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM during the Open Doors Days organized by the City Information and Cultural Center.
