Říčany - Říčany near Prague are preparing to construct a new primary school on Komenského Square. The architectural office is already working on the project documentation, and construction is expected to begin next year. The costs are estimated at 250 million korunas, said the town hall spokesperson Kateřina Lauerová to ČTK.
The new building with 18 standard classrooms, specialized classrooms, and a cafeteria will be built on vacant land that is currently a meadow. The complex will include a separate gymnasium with an underground parking lot, outdoor sports facilities, and a park alongside the school building.
The construction will be financed from a Ministry of Education program designated for the expansion of school capacities in the so-called ring around Prague, which has nearly 1.7 billion korunas. The grant is expected to cover up to 70 percent of the costs. Since the building will be energy-efficient, Říčany will also apply for a grant from the Operational Program Environment, which can amount to up to 50 million korunas and cover up to 30 percent of the total expenditures.
The town hall organized a public meeting regarding the winning design for the future school and is displaying proposals submitted for the architectural competition at Masaryk Square. According to Mayor Vladimír Kořen (Calm City), the winning design is sensitive to the surroundings and enhances the character of the square. “I really like the transport solution, which could bring new connections to Komenského Square. Cars could be divided into several lanes, and there is also a plan for a pedestrian zone in front of the school,” Kořen appreciated.
