Říčany (near Prague) - Masaryk Square in Říčany will be adorned from Saturday with the foundation stone of a new elementary school. However, the town hall has not yet managed to secure funding for its construction. However, support has been expressed by representatives of several political parties as part of their pre-election promises. The symbolic foundation stone is meant to remind them of this.

"The stone will be on the square until construction begins on the prepared land," said mayor Adriena Mrázová today to ČTK. The symbolic foundation stone will be laid in the square during the celebration of Children's Day.
In the Říčany elementary schools, around 450 places are missing. A new school is necessary, considering the expected demographic development. The city, located near the D1 highway to Brno, benefits from its proximity to Prague and the development of industrial zones. Therefore, the number of its inhabitants, and consequently children, has been significantly increasing since 1991. If a new school is not built, by 2010 there will be a shortfall of up to 730 places in the Říčany elementary schools.
The capacity of the two current Říčany schools is 1,150 places, but they are attended by 1,572 students. As a result, specialized classrooms had to be abolished, and the capacity of the school gyms and sports facilities is insufficient. Students learn in five different school buildings, many of which they move between during lessons. Classes are also held in four buildings of other organizations, such as in the art school, in the sports hall, or in stadiums.
Kindergarten facilities also face problems with child placement. Last year, due to limited capacity, approximately 65 children could not be placed.
