Brno - The reconstruction of Dornych and Plotní streets in Brno, along with the relocation of the tram line, will begin in February instead of January. This was announced to reporters today by the mayor's deputy Richard Mrázek (ANO). According to him, it is necessary to fine-tune the process with the contractor, who has suggested methods for possibly accelerating the construction. However, he did not provide any further details. The costs are 1.2 billion crowns, and the work is expected to last 2.5 years.
Currently, trams are mixed with personal traffic on Dornych. As a result of the investment, the tram line will be relocated to the transit-overloaded Plotní street, which will calm traffic. On Dornych, where several companies are located, four lanes for automobile traffic will be created. The relocation will allow people, after 40 years, to reach the Zvonařka bus station directly by tram. Currently, they have to go through a complex bridge structure that leads over a busy road for cars.
Work will begin on Dornych, which will be closed from Svatopetrská to the southern end of the street. About a year later, construction will move to Plotní street. Trams will stop running to Komárov from the start of construction. They will be replaced by buses that will operate on Plotní. The frequency of services will remain the same. Detour routes for cars will be introduced later. Among other things, the newly built street called Nová Agrozet, which connects Dornych through the area of the former cold storage with Masná, will be used.
There will be a stop on the new tram line directly at the bus station, which is set to undergo its first major modernization. Another new tram stop will be created further south, and noise barriers will be installed on Plotní. The investment by the transport company amounts to 330 million crowns.
An additional 176 million crowns will be invested by the Directorate of Roads and Highways, and 30 million by Teplárny Brno, which can expand their heating network thanks to the construction. Until now, they only supplied heat to Dornych, but will also extend the network to Plotní.
The remaining approximately 700 million will be invested by Brno, which has managed to secure European subsidies. The city council has already approved the final necessary exchange of the building that obstructs the construction and road widening near the Zvonařka stop.
