Brno - Brno will gain the last house near the Zvonařka tram loop, which hinders the development of the area and the work on relocating the tram line from Dornych Street to Plotní Street. It will exchange it for a house in the Zábrdovice locality, said Richard Mrázek (ANO), the mayor's deputy, to reporters today. The relocation of the line will cost over a billion. The city council will soon decide on the company that will carry out the work. After signing the contract, they will be able to start work. This will happen at the turn of the year. It will last about two and a half years.

Currently, trams run on Dornych Street together with cars, which also drive on Plotní Street. The aim of the work is to separate tram transport from cars, calm the situation on the busy Plotní Street, which will be reserved for public transport only, speed up the tram transit from the center to the south, and better connect public transport with the Zvonařka bus station. People currently have to navigate a complicated bridge structure over the road for cars to get from the tram. Thus, the relocation of the line will ultimately improve travel for drivers, people using public transport, and the situation for pedestrians.

Part of the work also includes expanding the intersection of Dornych and Zvonařka, which was hindered by the house in question, which the city will acquire through the exchange. "Negotiations with the owner of the house near the tram loop dragged on since 2005. The council today approved the intention of an agreement for the exchange of real estate in Zábrdovice. The agreement will allow us to further develop this area, which has thus far been blocked by this property," Mrázek stated. It still needs to be approved by the city council. The city will then have the building demolished.

Work will begin in the coming weeks. The selection process for the contractor for the construction is ending. "The signing of the contract with the contractor and the commencement of construction will be possible after the expiration of the appeal periods. We expect this to happen at the end of this year or at the beginning of next year. Work will initially start on the sewer system on Dornych Street from the intersection with Svatopetrská Street, which are works that can also be carried out in winter," Mrázek added. After removing the tram superstructure and reconstructing the engineering networks, a four-lane road will be created. Then a new tram line will be built on Plotní Street near the Zvonařka station.
