Jičín - The reconstruction of Masaryk Theatre in Jičín is expected to cost around 200 million crowns. This follows from a study commissioned by the Jičín municipal council for the renovation of the neglected building. By 2020, the city should have completed the project documentation for the renovation. Subsequently, the city will face the decision of when to proceed with the reconstruction and how to finance it. This was stated by the mayor Jan Malý (ANO).
He reminded that the city will first have to decide on another financially demanding project, namely the construction of infrastructure for a new residential area in the former barracks site. "The estimated costs for the barracks are also at the level of 200 million crowns. We aim to obtain grants for both the barracks and the theatre," said the mayor.
The theatre, built at the end of the 19th century, was purchased by the city in 2016 after complicated negotiations from the Gymnastic Union Sokol for 18.5 million crowns. This opened the way for the renovation of the building, as the Sokol group would not have had the funds for the repairs themselves.
By commissioning the study, the municipal council has initiated the costly reconstruction. Builders are expected to renovate the roof, facade, utilities, heating, interiors, and install air conditioning.
In recent weeks, the city had to rush to repair the wooden truss over the stage, which was in a state of emergency and could collapse under the weight of snow. The company MEPRO, which prepared the study for the city, highlighted the poor condition of the trusses and will subsequently create documentation for the overall reconstruction of the building.
Masaryk Theatre, located in the pedestrian zone on Husova Street, is a center of cultural and social life in the town of Jičín, which has a population of sixteen thousand. It hosts performances, concerts, balls, dance courses, exhibitions, and seminars.
