The director of the Museum of the City of Brno will remain Ciprian

Brno - Pavel Ciprian will remain the director of the Museum of the City of Brno, Mayor Petr Vokřál (ANO) told reporters today. Ciprian won the selection process, into which five candidates applied. The museum, which oversees, for example, Špilberk Castle and the Tugendhat Villa, has been led by him for 11 years.
    In addition to Ciprian, the long-time director of the Collection of Old Art at the National Gallery in Prague, Vít Vlnas, the head of the foreign department of the Brno City Hall, Mojmír Jeřábek, project manager and teacher Jan Melichar, and art historian Pavla Svobodová applied for the selection process. "The trio of Ciprian, Jeřábek, and Vlnas made it to the shortlist. Each of them had their pros and cons. In the end, we decided that the current director would continue," Vokřál added.
    According to him, Ciprian met all the prerequisites for museum work and museum funds, Jeřábek had good ideas for involving the Tugendhat Villa and revitalizing other houses and various activities, and Vlnas brought an interesting concept for development. "However, we were not sure whether Mr. Vlnas would make the museum just a transfer station; with Mr. Jeřábek, we would provoke a discussion about whether he would manage the museum fund well," Vokřál stated.
    At the same time, he will discuss with Ciprian how to improve the museum's function. "We will address the issue of the dramaturgy of activity development, so that it has a longer-term concept and that the projects are not random," he added.
    The city announced the selection process for the director's position three times. Two were from the old leadership composed of the CSSD and ODS, and one was announced by the new coalition of ANO, Žít Brno, the Christian Democrats, and the Greens. Ciprian applied for all three selection processes because he wanted to continue his work. He has thirty years of experience in the museum field. "I started in museum work right after graduating from university. With a short break, I've been doing it the whole time. Before that, I was the director of the Znojmo Museum; I have been in the Brno museum for 11 years," Ciprian said.
