Brno – Eight candidates are interested in the position of the director of the Museum of the City of Brno, among them the current head of the Tugendhat Villa, Iveta Černá, and MP Jiří Mihola from KDU-ČSL. The names of the candidates were published today by the Brno City Hall. Long-time director Pavel Ciprian will not continue in the position. The Museum of the City of Brno is located at Špilberk Castle and also manages the Tugendhat Villa, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Měnínská Gate in the center of Brno.
The selection procedure was announced by the Brno City Council last November, and interested parties had approximately a quarter of a year to prepare a development plan. The CVs of the candidates have now been made available on the City Hall's website, but the plans have not yet been published. The selection committee is likely to convene in the second half of May or the first half of June.
"The selection committee's aim will be to choose a candidate who has experience in team management and whose developed concept for the Museum of the City of Brno for the coming years is the best quality. We must always remember that the Museum of the City of Brno is a scientific, professional, and culturally educational organization that cares for the cultural heritage of the city, not only for Špilberk Castle and the Tugendhat Villa," said Deputy Mayor Tomáš Koláčný (Pirates). The selection committee includes representatives of the city, museum work experts, and heritage care, as well as representatives of the Löw-Beer and Tugendhat families, after whom significant architectural monuments remain in Brno.
Former director of the Mendel Museum Ondřej Dostál, former head of the Löw-Beer Villa Petra Svobodová, deputy mayor of Královo Pole Zbyněk Šolc (ODS), architect and urban planner Dušan Novotník, Michal Žďárský from the Moravian Gallery, and Marcela Straková, who has worked, for example, at the National Gallery, the National Theatre, and at the Czech Centre in Stockholm, also applied for the selection procedure.
