Prostějov - The Prostějov City Hall is investing up to 150,000 crowns into a feasibility study for the utilization of the historic train station building at the Prostějov-local station, which the city intends to acquire from the Railway Administration. The property has been deteriorating for several years and was even at risk of demolition. According to an agreement with the Railway Administration, the city could potentially acquire it free of charge if the agreed conditions are met. Jiří Rozehnal (ANO), the mayor’s deputy, informed ČTK today.
"The Department of Development and Investments is preparing to create a study for the reconstruction of the local train station. One possible option is to relocate the police patrol department from its premises in Vrahovice, which could meet the conditions for the free transfer of the former dispatch building of Prostějov-local station, as required by the Railway Administration. The transfer of the property is currently under discussion," said Rozehnal.
The study on the feasibility of the train station building will be prepared by the company 2 arch, and the city will pay nearly 100,000 crowns for it. Experts will begin working on the study in mid-March. "The costs for the preparation of the reconstruction study for the local train station, including a potential reserve for further necessary construction surveys, are estimated at 150,000 crowns," Rozehnal added. After the transfer of the train station building to the city is approved, it will be possible to remove the original railway technology from it. The reconstruction, which is tentatively planned for 2027 and 2028, will then follow.
The historic dispatch building is located on a single-track regional line connecting the stations of Prostějov and Chornice, and it was opened in 1889. Several years ago, the management of the Railway Administration announced that, in the preparations for the reconstruction of this station, they were also considering demolishing the old dispatch building from the late 19th century and building a smaller structure. This information caused considerable discontent in Prostějov, and a petition for its preservation was being organized. The city and the Railway Administration have been negotiating the conditions for the transfer of the train station building for a long time. The anticipated costs for the reconstruction of the building and its surroundings, which could reach tens of millions of crowns, also played an important role in the decision-making process.
The Railway Administration is preparing the reconstruction of the Prostějov-local train station, which includes the exchange of tracks and the repair of platforms, as well as safety equipment, including the installation of new cables. The technology necessary for the operation of the station will be relocated to new premises adjacent to the historic train station building. Builders have already demolished the locomotive depot, turntable, water tower, and office buildings within the station area. A recreational and residential zone is set to be developed on the land of the former turntable.
