Prostějov - The Prostějov City Hall wants to invest tens of millions of crowns into the regeneration of urban housing estates. The plan for the second and third phases of the reconstruction of the populous Šárka estate and the first part of the regeneration of the Brněnská - Tylova estate was approved by the city council this week and will now be discussed by the city assembly, said Deputy Mayor Zdeněk Fišer (ČSSD) to reporters today.

According to Fišer, the project focused on the Šárka estate follows the already completed first phase of the reconstruction of the western part of the estate, which will be completed this year. "The subject involves construction modifications including the reconstruction of roads and paved areas as well as the reconstruction of public lighting. It also addresses rainwater drainage, container parking, greenery, and furniture," Fišer stated.

He estimated that these two planned phases of the Šárka estate regeneration will cost 17.2 million crowns.

The city hall also wants to modernize public spaces in the Brněnská - Tylova estate, where roads, paved areas, public lighting will be repaired, and landscaping modifications are also planned. "Project documentation for construction has been prepared, the project is construction-approved, and currently, preparations for selecting contractors for construction work are underway," Fišer noted. The total budget for the regeneration of the Brněnská - Tylova estate is estimated to be 25.5 million crowns, with the planned first part costing 9.7 million crowns.

The regeneration of Prostějov's housing estates could be supported by subsidies from the Ministry for Regional Development, which the city hall will apply for. "The aim of this sub-program is to provide municipalities with subsidies for the regeneration of public spaces in housing estates built between 1945 and 1990, with a total of at least 150 residential units. The preliminary allocation for the sub-program is 40.6 million crowns," said Fišer.

He pointed out that the subsidy can cover up to 70 percent of the costs, but its amount is limited to four million crowns. "Within one city, only one project can be supported," he added.

Workers started the first phase of the Šárka estate regeneration, which cost approximately 16 million crowns, this year. Another four phases are planned to follow by 2019, with total costs estimated at 80 million crowns.

In previous years, the Prostějov City Hall invested about forty million crowns into the regeneration of the E. Beneš estate.

Millions of crowns are also being invested in the repair of housing estates with the help of subsidies by other city halls - for example, in Přerov or Olomouc. Přerov is currently focused on the repair of the panel housing estate Trávník, which was built in the 1970s and includes about forty panel buildings with nearly 1300 apartments.

A similar repair of another estate in Přerov-Předmostí cost 80 million crowns, with half of the costs covered by subsidies. The modernization of the large Povel estate in Olomouc, completed last year, has cost over 100 million since 2012.
