Králicky Sněžník - By the end of June, a company should be selected to build a new lookout tower on the Polish side of Králický Sněžník. The original observation tower was demolished in 1973. The project received a grant from the cross-border Interreg V-A program between the Czech Republic and Poland. The tender for the construction had to be repeated, as either no one applied or the offered price was too high, said Jaroslav Štefek, secretary of the Euroregion Glacensis.

"The project is planned so that all materials will be transported by air without using local roads for nature protection. The Polish side is trying to change this so that provisional roads for transportation can be constructed, which would lower the project's cost," said Štefek.

The lookout tower will have a structure made of concrete up to 13 meters with stone cladding, and the top of the tower will be largely glazed. The total height is expected to reach 33 meters. The observation tower is expected to cost 3.5 million euros (about 95 million crowns), which represents a contribution from European funds. The project also includes a tourist information center in Králíky. The project partners on the Polish side include the municipality of Stronie Slaskie, while on the Czech side it is the Králíky town hall.

The revival of the lookout tower has been discussed for many years. It is to be built at the site of the original observation tower on the Polish side of the border. Its construction began on April 17, 1895, and was completed on December 9, 1899. At the same time, a rather uncomfortable and very steep path was constructed from the mountain meadow Hala pod Śnieżnikiem to the summit of the mountain. At the base of the towers, there was also a wooden mountain lodge with a veranda. In the post-war years, the lookout tower deteriorated significantly due to acid rains, and it was demolished in 1973. At the highest point of Králický Sněžník, remnants of the tower still exist today in the form of a three-meter pile of rubble.
