The marina of the Baťa Canal in Veselí n. M. will be expanded for more boats

Veselí nad Moravou - The Baťa Canal harbor in Veselí nad Moravou in the Hodonín region will be expanded. The estimated costs are 50 million crowns, said Vojtěch Bártek, the director of the Baťa Canal. According to him, the current capacity of 11 boats is insufficient. After the expansion, the harbor could accommodate up to 35 boats.

Leaving a boat in the Veselí harbor is sometimes a problem. "The capacity is only 11 boats, and the others are moored somewhat illegally," Bártek stated. After the expansion for 50 million, the capacity could more than triple.

In addition to new berths, the harbor would receive a fuel pump, a service center, electrical power connections, and water supply. "The implementation is planned for the years 2019 to 2020," Bártek added. The costs will be covered by the State Fund for Transportation Infrastructure.

In addition to the investment in the expansion in Veselí nad Moravou, repairs and reconstructions are being carried out in other sections as well. Among the most important construction projects of this year is the repair of the embankment and cleaning of the sediments of the Baťa Canal in the section between the villages of Vnorovy and Strážnice. The work, costing 25 million, required the canal to be drained. Another project involves strengthening the bank in Vnorovy and between Huštěnovice and Babice in the Uherskohradišť region.

The length of the Baťa Canal exceeds 50 kilometers. It can be traveled from Otrokovice in the Zlín region through the South Moravian region all the way to the Slovak Skalice. In the future, there are plans to extend the route to Kroměříž on one side and to Hodonín on the other. The Baťa Canal is increasingly being frequented by tourists, with approximately 80,000 visitors each year.
