Přerov – Most of the representatives of Přerov today supported the sale of the abandoned Strojař hotel building, which the city purchased five years ago for 42 million crowns to prevent the establishment of another social accommodation. However, the city has not yet found a use for the property, and developers have now expressed interest in reconstructing it for residential purposes or possibly demolishing the entire building to construct a multifunctional building in its place. Based on the representatives' decision, the city will now order an expert assessment for the announced price in the tender.
The representatives preferred the sale over the option of exchanging it for the building at Palackého 27, where a library could have been established. However, the city would have had to pay the price difference; according to the property's owners' assessment, this difference would be approximately 24 million crowns. "An exchange is the shortest path to a new library. We had in our program declaration that we would find a place where a library could be established. The building at Palackého 27 is suitable. In addition to the library, it is also planned to include a cinema hall, a lecture hall, and a café. The project would significantly revitalize the area in the immediate vicinity of two high schools. A new library construction would be significantly more expensive," said Deputy Mayor Petr Kouba (ODS).
However, the council was not unanimous in the proposal, so the representatives voted today on the option of a sale on the condition of ordering an expert opinion to determine the market price, which would be the announced price in the tender. It was supported by Deputy Mayor Hana Mazochová (ANO). "I am in favor of the sale; we have several interested parties in buying Strojař," the deputy noted.
The Přerov housing cooperative had previously sought to purchase Strojař, offering a price of 42 million crowns. Other companies have now also shown interest; a company from Otrokovice wants to reconstruct the property for residential purposes and simultaneously build commercial facilities in the immediate vicinity. Another company based in Vyškov proposed demolishing the building and constructing a multifunctional house with a library and apartments. According to the company director, smaller apartments could be acquired by the city as part of its housing stock, while larger units would be intended for commercial sale. The construction of a new building would provide certain representatives with the assurance that a social accommodation would not be established there. "We will not allow a new developer to establish accommodation here under any circumstances," stated Mayor Petr Měřínský (ANO).
The fate of the nine-story panel building Strojař near the center has occupied two successive city administrations. Among the plans were to convert the apartments into facilities for young families or seniors, but also demolishing and preparing the area for a new investor; however, all plans failed, partly due to costs.
