Přerov – Přerov will announce a public competition for the transformation of a large area near the city center, where the unused building of the Strojař hotel stands. The 56-year-old building, which the city acquired years ago and has not yet found a use for, is to be demolished and replaced by a modern apartment building. The announcement of a public contract for the development of project documentation for the site was approved today by the city councilors.

The subject of the contract is the design of a new organization of the space, the design of buildings for housing and civic amenities, and appropriate infrastructure. Great emphasis will be placed on high-quality urban and architectural rendering of the project corresponding to the significance of the location, said the mayor of Přerov, Petr Vrána (ANO). The city hall will seek the transformation of the space through a competitive dialogue, which was appreciated by representatives from the opposition.

The city is expected to pay 2.3 million crowns for services associated with the administration and organization of the competitive dialogue, with a sketch fee costing 2.2 million and the committee receiving an additional 300,000 crowns for its work. The costs of preparing all the necessary project documentation for the building permit and the construction implementation are estimated at 24 million crowns. "We do not know exactly how much the construction itself will cost, but the total estimated calculated investment costs are nearly 312 million crowns," added Pavel Gala, head of the development department. Construction could begin within five years.

The panel building Strojař, with 144 residential units, was built in 1968 on Velká Dlážka as a dormitory for employees of the Přerov machine works. In 2000, it was acquired by the army, which housed its soldiers from the nearby helicopter base there. In 2016, the city of Přerov purchased the Strojař for 42.5 million crowns out of concern over the establishment of a social hostel. The fate of the nine-story panel building has occupied two administrations at the city hall, with all previous plans ending in failure due to financial issues. A newly established eleven-member committee consisting of city representatives will also help seek a new form for the location at the city hall. The committee is expected to meet for the first time at the end of April.
