Prague - Residents of Prague 6 can participate in voting on the possible future appearance of the area around the so-called Břevnov skyscraper. On the website of the municipal district, proposals that emerged from an architectural competition are available. Every interested person can add their evaluation to them.
"This area has long been the subject of discussions and, in the past, certain emotions," stated councilor Eva Smutná (for TOP 09) online. "We would be very pleased if people take the opportunity to participate in the voting," she added. The city hall, together with the investor, presented six proposals for how the buildings around the historic rotunda known as the Kajetánská chapel could look.
Locals have previously protested against high-rise construction and the alleged destruction of greenery. The opposition is also against it. Green party councilor Antonín Nechvátal described the results of the competition as "appalling" in response to a question from ČTK. "They are a significant warning for attempts to develop historical areas with high-capacity construction. If they were to be realized, they would represent the destruction of this location, especially as it is the valley of Brusnice, which further flows through the Deer Ditch of Prague Castle," Nechvátal stated.
In 2008, the municipal district sold the land by the Brusnice stream around the approximately hundred-year-old Břevnov skyscraper to Geosan Kappa for 70 million crowns. The company plans to demolish the skyscraper, and several multi-storey buildings are expected to be built around the heritage-protected Kajetánská chapel.
