Prague - Instead of the so-called Břevnov skyscraper on Radimova Street and on neighboring parcels in Prague 6, three separate residential buildings will be constructed. Between the buildings, there will be space for a view of the Kajetán Chapel. Based on today’s decision by the Prague 6 council, the municipality will conclude a cooperation agreement with the developer.
The parcels near the Brusnice stream around the nearly one hundred-year-old Břevnov skyscraper were sold by the municipality to Geosan Kappa in 2008 for 70 million crowns. The original plan counted on preserving the skyscraper, but the building is in poor condition.
The new buildings will include floors designated for civic amenities, and the municipality will receive several apartments. The height of the tallest building will be 28.4 meters. There will be connected underground garages with 112 spaces and technical areas. The company Rezidence Radimova also plans to renovate the park and restore the hospital chapel. Afterwards, the company will transfer both the park and the chapel to the municipality. Access to the chapel will be between the buildings and from the Vincentinum pond as well as from the park north of the Brusnice stream, which the project will relocate to a modified channel.
According to the document, the Břevnov skyscraper on Radimova Street is in poor technical condition. Reconstruction would be technically and financially demanding. The building has humidity issues, and the wooden beams are infested with wood-destroying fungi. "During the reconstruction, only the load-bearing walls and the roof would remain intact. The new walls are in poor condition, and their remediation would be very costly," the document states. According to the assessment, reconstruction costs would reach 53 million crowns, while demolition would cost 15 million crowns. The building has been vacant since 2015.
The Břevnov skyscraper from 1911 is among several dilapidated buildings managed by Prague 6. Another abandoned building is the Šatovka, which was occupied by a group of squatters for several days at the beginning of this year, the building on Dejvická Street, and a three-apartment building on Šolínova Street. The city hall is preparing renovation projects for these three buildings.
