Prague - Prague will terminate the lease agreement for a small parking lot next to the building of the City Museum in Florenc through the Technical Administration of Communications (TSK). The city leadership is expected to approve the termination at the beginning of September. Petr Dolínek (ČSSD), the deputy mayor, told ČTK. Prague has already ended the operation of the parking lot at Malostranské náměstí and is preparing to close more parking lots.

TSK is currently preparing a material that will be discussed by Prague city councilors. If approved, TSK will subsequently terminate the contract with the tenant. According to Dolínek, a public space where people can spend their free time is to be created at the site of the small parking lot. "The parking lot is commercial, it does not serve the museum. If the museum needs several parking spaces, we can agree with the owner of the parking lot next to the bus station," he said.

Prague decided in March this year to terminate about ninety lease agreements for parking lot operations. The reasons in many cases are very low rents. "During the winter, we would like to re-tender most of the lease agreements. I will propose that in some cases the current operators have the opportunity to match the highest bid, as they have previously invested substantial amounts in improving the parking lots," said Dolínek. A new feature will be that the competition conditions will state that the parking lots must have a 24-hour dispatching service.

Not all parking lots will be preserved. Just like the one at Malostranské náměstí, the parking lot on Alšovo nábřeží and the aforementioned parking lot at the City Museum will not be restored after the lease termination. Similarly, there will be no tender for the tenant for the area at the corner of Washingtonova and Wilsonova. "This is related to the revitalization of the main road," said Dolínek.

Special conditions will apply in Dědina. Here, the new tenant will have a clause in the contract stating that in the event of an extension of the tram line from Divoká Šárka, the parking lot will be closed and converted into a so-called P+R parking lot.

The reason for the changes is the low rent, with the tenant in Habrová Street in Žižkov, for example, paying the city 12,609 CZK annually for 45 parking spaces or in Lýsková in Stodůlky paying 8,167 CZK annually for 66 parking spaces. Some contracts were concluded as far back as the 1990s. Prague ended the operation of the parking lot at Malostranské náměstí on July 1, 2016.

In the leases for parking lots for which the city is preparing a new tender for tenants, approximately 35.9 million CZK will be collected. Termination of leases will not apply to parking garages.
