Prague - Prague will begin the repair of the Libeň Bridge even if the Ministry of Culture does not decide whether it is a cultural monument. In January, Prague councilors could decide on the assignment of a tender for the contractor. This was stated by the mayor's deputy, Petr Dolínek (ČSSD), at today's meeting of the city council committee. The ministry's verdict is important for the city, as it will determine the course of the repairs. The bridge, built in 1928, has long been in a state of emergency. The Prague Assembly approved the repair last year.

"Today I instructed the Department of Transportation Development and Financing to order the project documentation for the repair of the bridge as a monument protected by law,"
said Dolínek. The ministry is not bound by law to a deadline for making a decision, and according to Dolínek, the city can no longer wait for the repair.

The Technical Administration of Communications (TSK) is set to begin preparing the project documentation. The city leadership is expected to approve the announcement of the tender at its first January meeting.

In the past, Prague planned to demolish the bridge and build a new one. This was opposed by part of the expert community as well as residents. The councilors ultimately rejected the demolition and approved the repair.

Since the Libeň Bridge was put into operation in 1928, its load-bearing structure has never been repaired. The creators of the bridge, which connects Holešovice and Libeň, are architect Pavel Janák and engineer František Mencl.
