Prague - The work on the reconstruction of the Libeň Bridge in Prague, along with the disruption of traffic, will begin next year. Currently, the consortium of construction companies selected by the city is preparing the necessary relocations of engineering networks. In an interview with ČTK, Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates), the deputy mayor of Prague for transport, stated this. The reconstruction work began last September, and so far it has consisted of constructing a flushing canal and a retention tank. According to the tender, the repair, along with other works, will cost around 2.18 billion crowns.

The Libeň Bridge is a structure made up of six bridges and was built according to the design of architect Pavel Janák in 1928. The bridge has never been repaired and is in very poor condition. The consortium of companies that will repair the bridge is led by Metrostav TBR and includes the parent company Metrostav and design firms SATRA and SHP. The project involves not only the reconstruction of the part of the bridge over the river but also a complete transformation of the entire structure and its surroundings, including the construction of flood protection measures.

Hřib mentioned that the city is currently addressing the necessary construction expropriations with the owners of the surrounding land to relocate the engineering networks from the bridge. This is a necessary condition for starting the reconstruction of the entire structure. According to earlier information, it should be completed by 2025, and the bridge will need to be closed to traffic during the works.

The repair of the Libeň Bridge is a prerequisite for the planned reconstruction of the Hlávkův Bridge, along which the busy north-south boulevard runs, due to the planning of detour routes. In this case, according to Hřib, it will not be necessary to completely close the structure, as each direction of traffic is on a separate structure and will be possible to repair separately.

The city also plans to repair other bridges, such as Palacký, Mánes, and the Legions Bridge. Last year, the municipality began the reconstruction of the Barrandov Bridge, which will continue this year.
