Prague - The City Hall of Prague 13 commissioned the preparation of a so-called verification study, which should determine what will be built in the future at the Solar Square near the office building. CTK was informed by Mayor David Vodrážka (ODS). The newly elected council of the city district will decide on the future shape of the construction and what will be created there after the autumn elections. The city's approach is criticized by opposition councilors, who claim that the city council is preparing it without the knowledge of residents and councilors, as they stated in an open letter.

"We have only commissioned a verification study on what could be built on the land. Subsequently, based on the results, discussions will take place in the council, possibly public consultations with citizens. However, it will definitely be addressed by the new council after the elections," wrote Vodrážka to CTK.

Any potential construction would concern the land near the metro B station Hůrka close to the city hall, which is managed by Prague 13. According to the mayor's letter to the municipal property registration department, a multifunctional center is supposed to be built on the land. What it would look like and what it would include is not mentioned in the letter. The construction is to be financed as a so-called PPP project, i.e., a collaboration between public administration and a private investor.

Opposition councilors Zuzana Drhová (Greens) and Tomáš Murňák (Pirates) criticize the city hall's approach. They want to address the construction of the center at the September council meeting. "We do not like the way this plan is being secretly prepared. The use of this land cannot be decided only by the mayor in the name of the city district, without a resolution from the council, committee, or consultation with the public. An open architectural competition should also be a given. We no longer have many plots where we can relatively freely say what the city district needs and what we want to build here," Drhová stated. Vodrážka dismisses the criticism and claims it is a pre-election battle.

In Prague 13, a coalition of ODS, ČSSD, and ANO is in power. In the 35-member council, they hold a majority with 21 votes. The elections in Prague 13 in 2014 were won by ODS, gaining 20.01 percent of the votes. ANO finished second, and TOP 09 was third.
