Pardubice - The city of Pardubice plans to renovate the Cihelna swimming pool after two decades. The estimated cost is more than 60 million crowns, and work could begin next year. This was stated by Mayor Martin Charvát (ANO). The city wants to invest in repairing the ticketing system and refurbishing the pools, including access areas and surrounding railings.
"After 20 years, the property is dilapidated. Tiles are falling off in the pools, and they need to be repaired every year. We are buying new ones because the originals no longer exist after 20 years," said operator Petr Ministr.
Pardubice has completed a study that includes four options. An expert selected the most advantageous approach. The construction company will install stainless steel walls in the pool, and the basins will be fitted with PVC and ceramic pool heads, Charvát said.
"The option is affordable. According to the study, it is ideal to divide the work into two phases, starting next autumn, and then continuing the work in the spring," said the mayor.
If the winter is not too harsh, everything can be completed without the repairs disrupting the opening of the 2022 season, Charvát added. According to him, completely stainless steel basins would cost up to 50 percent more. "If everything goes well, we would approve the funds for planning in the autumn and then the funds for reconstruction when they are in the budget," Charvát added.
The Cihelna complex covers more than four hectares. The water area of the swimming pool is 3,500 square meters. According to recommendations from the Ministry of Health, it can accommodate up to 4,000 people at a time.
There is also a campsite near the swimming pool, which the city renovated years ago; it has been in operation since 2014. It was closed for several years due to inadequate social facilities. The facility can accommodate up to 120 visitors.
