Pardubice – The representatives of Pardubice today approved the complete reconstruction of the Cihelna swimming pool. Compared to the previous proposal, the expected price was reduced from 140 million to 130 million Czech crowns, including VAT. In the tender, the city will require the contractor to spread the payments over three years. This will allow Pardubice to avoid the necessity of financing repairs through a loan.

"The condition of the swimming pool carries risks. There are damaged ceramic tiles to such an extent that we recorded injuries to visitors during last season. After this winter, we cannot imagine how to prepare the swimming pool to operate," said Mayor Martin Charvát (ANO).

The city has reduced the overall costs. It removed the golf course project worth five million crowns and some items from the construction and technology section for the same amount.

Pardubice will require the contracting company to divide the repair payments over three years. In 2022, it should be 30 million crowns, and in 2023 and 2024, 50 million crowns each. Construction is expected to begin in the spring of next year, and the swimming pool should open in June 2023. After that, the builders may still complete some remaining work.

The Cihelna swimming pool is from 1960. The area covers over four hectares, and the water surface reaches 3,500 square meters. It can accommodate up to 4,000 people at the same time. The swimming pool underwent a major renovation 21 years ago. An expert report stated that the technology is outdated, and the pools are in poor condition, especially the ceramic tiles, which are falling off. During the reconstruction, they will be replaced with laminated panels made of stainless steel and hard PVC on the pool walls. The bottom will be made of PVC foil, and the edges of the pool will be ceramic. Fully stainless steel tubs would cost much more.
