Pardubice are looking for uses for the former barracks; they do not want industry

Pardubice - The Pardubice City Hall is looking for use for the entire area of the former Hůrka barracks, which it acquired from the state last year. According to the zoning plan, industrial production or logistics centers cannot be placed in the area. Everything from housing, services, commerce, to possibly sports facilities can be here, said today to ČTK the deputy mayor of Pardubice, Michal Koláček.
The magistrate will announce a public competition for the use of more than 12 hectares of land at the end of April. "The city has decided not to impose its own ideas about the use of this area on developers and investors in advance. The decision on what should be built in Hůrka will arise from the competition. The winning proposal should correspond to the ideas of the councilors, who will have the final word," he said. Some buildings have already found new uses, there is, for example, a hotel.
Participants in the competition will have about three months to prepare their proposals. They will have to include, among other things, the conditions for financing the construction and the timeline for starting and completing the work. The councilors should decide on the winner of the competition in September.
The same method of resolution was chosen by the Pardubice City Hall some time ago for the development of Masaryk Square. The competition was won by the company Bohemia sen, which will build a multifunctional entertainment and shopping center in the city center. "We could announce an architectural competition for the use of the area, but from experience, we know that it is very difficult to find an investor for such an initiative," added the deputy mayor.
