Pardubice - Pardubice are preparing the construction of two new foot and bicycle bridges over the Elbe River. One will connect the Na Špici park with the Cihelna area, where there is a swimming pool and the Žlutý pes club, and the other will connect the administrative and commercial center Poseidon in the Závodu Míru housing estate with the Polabiny housing estate and the planned Lonkovka relaxation center. One construction has already received a zoning decision, while the city hall has requested permission for the second, said Karolína Koupalová from the department of the chief architect at the city council, to ČTK.
"If everything goes according to the permitting process as it should, it is expected that they will be constructed between 2018 and 2019, as they should be financed from the Integrated Territorial Investments (ITI) program of the Hradec-Pardubice agglomeration, which includes both projects," stated Koupalová.
At Poseidon, a concrete and steel structure will be created, dominated by an A-shaped supporting pillar. On the left bank, the bridge will connect with the current path along the complex, while on the right bank, it will connect to the current path leading along the flood protection embankment by the river. The railing on one side will be covered with photovoltaic panels.
The bridge from the Na Špici park is designed as a suspension bridge. Its load-bearing structure consists of a reinforced concrete deck approximately four meters wide, with two supporting cables forming a parabolic shape in the middle part. The construction will allow for the connection of backbone cycling routes along both banks of the Elbe.
The total costs for both bridges are estimated at nearly 80 million crowns, including greenery and part of the bike path. The city intends to obtain up to 90 percent of the eligible costs from European and state subsidies, with about 17 million crowns coming from its own budget.
The bridges will not impede navigation on the Elbe to Pardubice. However, they are classified as temporary structures due to the potential future construction of the Danube-Oder-Elbe canal.
