Prague - Repairs of Prague's Vyšehrad will continue this year. However, the national cultural monument is not expected to undergo such significant changes as in previous years. The main work will be the repair of the fortifications. Annually, the city hall spends about ten million crowns on them, said Miloslava Havelková, the director of Vyšehrad. The entire Vyšehrad does not belong to the city hall. The Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul and the cemetery are owned by the chapter.

This year, workers will focus on the retaining wall of the western slope and the eastern part of the stone Gothic and Baroque brick fortifications along Lumírovy sady. "Experts need to replace about half of the stone masonry, which is mainly made of rare tufa," Havelková noted.
Public restrooms will also be renewed, and a new façade is planned for the house with a commemorative plaque of the writer Popelka Biliánová. "We will continue to replace the inappropriate asphalt surface of the park paths with a granite mosaic around the rotunda of St. Martin, repair the retaining walls along the staircase by the railway bridge and the retaining walls on the slope above Rašín's embankment, and clean and repair the weathered parts of the Vyšehrad rock," the director listed.
The management of the monument wants to complete the renovation of the irrigation system, which will now draw water from the Vltava River. An ecological center will be established near the southern bastion by the Táborská Gate. Biological waste will no longer be removed from the parks; it will be transformed into fertilizer on-site. Additionally, the Jedlička Institute plans to raise two mountain goats that will graze the grass and will also be part of therapy. In total, Vyšehrad has about 17 million crowns this year for repairs and maintenance.
Significant repairs of Vyšehrad were completed last year. After the renovation, the old burgrave's residence, a Gothic cellar with an exhibition on the history of the monument, and the royal and princely acropolis were opened. Their reconstruction took several years and cost approximately 40 million crowns in total. A children's playground based on the Old Czech Legends was built for two million.
"This year and in the coming years, we do not plan any new projects of this kind because we no longer have a similar object under renovation," Havelková stated. According to her, the endless repairs of the fortifications will continue, and there are plans to secure the Vyšehrad rock with a network.
