Prague - Prague 10 will begin improvements around the Cíl shopping center in Zahradní Město after five years of preparation. The municipal district has already selected a construction company. Work is expected to start by the end of the year and finish in the second half of 2019. ČTK was informed by the spokesperson for Prague 10, Vít Novák. The area will be newly paved, and the town hall will install new furniture, trees, playground equipment, and drinking fountains. The cost of the project is approximately 20 million crowns.
The area in front of the shopping center is currently neglected, and local residents criticize it. The town hall began planning the improvements back in 2013, but due to complications in coordinating with the owners of nearby buildings, the project had to be adjusted several times.
According to the town hall, the area will be designated for relaxation but also for events such as farmers' markets or neighborhood gatherings. "A network of drinking water and outdoor fountains is planned for their needs," Novák stated. He added that wooden stages are also planned, and the entire area will be accessible.
"It is also necessary to mention the reconstruction of the library in the building, which is already underway and is expected to be completed by spring 2019," the spokesperson added.
The shopping center was built in the 1960s as a center for the newly established Zahradní Město housing estate. It is mainly used by residents from the immediate vicinity.
